KAWNEER SYSTEMS SET TO GET A ROYAL SEAL OF APPROVAL

Glazing by Kawneer is being installed on the new Cheltenham Racecourse grandstand.

Work has begun on the installation of glazed elements from leading architectural aluminium systems supplier Kawneer on the redevelopment of Cheltenham Racecourse, The Jockey Club's largest-ever single investment.

The £45million project will feature Kawneer's AA®100 zone-drained fully-capped and mullion-drained SSG (Structurally Silicone Glazed) curtain walling systems with inset AA®3572 lift/slide doors, AA®541 top-hung casement windows, AA®3720 bifold doors and series 190 heavy duty commercial entrance doors.

They are being installed over an expected three months for main contractor Kier Construction by specialist sub-contractor and Kawneer-approved installer Aluminium Sashes on all levels of the state-of-the-art multi-level, amphitheatre-like grandstand.

Designed by architects Roberts Limbrick, the 6,500-capacity grandstand will replace the previous “A&R” block which was built in the 1920s. The previous Royal Box, which was built in 1952, and 55 other boxes which were built in the 1920s and 1930s, have been demolished.

The Prestbury Park project is due for completion in time for The 2016 festival and will include new members' facilities, improved bar facilities, and improved viewing of the course and parade ring.

Aluminium Sashes' operations director Paul Seabright said: “The logistics of installation are challenging in this case as there is a terraced, multi-level grandstand with 16m cantilevered overhang roof.”
