The Slateware range boasts two types of cake stands

Whether it's the “Great British Bake Off” effect or just general nostalgia, cakes are making a comeback, so it's only natural that the stands they are presented on are too.

The Slateware range from Welsh Slate includes two very different cake stands designed by two-star Michelin chef Michael Caines - one traditional and one more contemporary - but both enable budding bakers to showcase their efforts in spectacular fashion.

The cake stand in Slateware's Fine collection is the traditional one, comprising two hand-split 270mm-square plates with straight edges, 3mm deep borders, a “silver” handle and slate feet (RRP £39.95).

Its sister and 305mm-diameter circular stand in Slateware's Honed collection features the natural green veining unique to Welsh Slate's Penrhyn Quarry as well as a fine rubbed finish and interlocking 3” slate base riser (RRP £69.98).

Both cake stands can be wiped clean using soap and warm water, or for more thorough washing, are dishwasher safe. Light scratches can usually be lifted with a damp cloth, and to enhance the richness of the slate, a gentle coating of olive oil can be applied.

So if Slateware's good enough for The Cake Shop at the Café Royal ...
