Armstrong Ceilings tiles are on the first step to GreenTag certification.

Armstrong Ceilings in South Africa is close to achieving the “world's best green product certification” by winning GreenTag™ GreenRate status for two of its mineral tiles.

Dune Supreme and Fine Fissured have achieved GreenRate Level B certification, a first step towards getting full GreenTag accreditation. This is a unique, independent third party, green building and other sustainable product rating and certification programme that claims its advanced, robust 'beyond Life Cycle Assessment' methodology is a world first.

To win Level B certification the tiles had to pass a toxicity assessment, meet criteria for social and environmental requirements, comply with durability and VOC emission levels, and achieve 50% design for disassembly criteria.

Armstrong is now working on upgrading to GreenRate Level A which will require 90% design for disassembly criteria and then winning LCARate which is based on Life Cycle Assessment. Once GreenRate and LCARate are achieved so is holistic GreenTag status.

LCARate is an ISO 14024 Type 1 (Third Party) Ecolabel underpinned by the world's first BIM-based LCA tool, enabling industry-wide rapid eco-profiling of buildings. LCARate certification is reflected by four different levels of ecopoints between < 0.75 (good) and 0.15 (world-leading).

Armstrong's Level B qualifying tiles are Dune Supreme and Fine Fissured Board 600 x 600 and 600 x 1200, Tegular 600 x 600 and Microlook 600 x 600.
