WOMEN IN PROPERTY SAILING TEAM MARK 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Women In Property's sailing team (including TLC pr director Tracy Twitchin) has marked the organisation's 10th anniversary of competing in the Little Britain Challenge Cup, the construction industry regatta.

Carol Bell, WIP yacht crew captain and City project manager, had drawn together a multi-disciplinary team of eight female built environment professionals from all over the UK who chose 2013 to step up from racing a 32ft Royal Engineer's X332 to a 40ft Sunsail F40, scoring a high point of 5th in two of the five races and resulting in 7th place out of 9 in the Sunsail F40 class.

Conditions over the three-day campaign, in which the WIP team won a Top 40 place overall, ranged from winds so light that racing was almost called off, through rain, to a precursor of the gales experienced over much of the country from Sunday (September 15th) which restricted the use of spinnakers.

Speaking as one of two new recruits to the team, Sarah Sutcliffe, graduate building surveyor with Tuffin Ferraby Taylor LLP, said ““I was delighted to represent Tuffin Ferraby Taylor on board the Women in Property boat which was racing in the Little Britain Challenge Cup. Whilst TFT is already a strong advocate of women in property generally, it was good to meet other like-minded and influential property-focused women on board.

“The sailing itself was phenomenal. Fast paced, exciting, exhilarating and, compared to the sailing I've been used to, exhausting. It was good to network - after all, it was a captive audience on the boat - and I've met some good friends at the event. I'm used to working within an organised environment at TFT and so it was interesting to be exposed to the other side of the coin and see how others manage an event like this and, I have to say, the Little Britain Challenge Cup committee did an incredible job. Whilst we weren't on the winner's podium, we didn't disgrace ourselves in the placings either, coming second in the female crew class .”
