WELSH SLATE CELEBRATES STAFF SUCCESS

Six line technicians at Welsh Slate have received their Level 2 NVQs.

The latest group of employees at Welsh Slate, the world's leading manufacturer of high quality slate products, have received recognition for their continuing professional development.

Six line technicians have completed their Level 2 NVQs in Performing Engineering Operations after almost two years' practical and academic study in partnership with Coleg Menai.

This involved them refining skills in welding, cutting and electrical work and refreshing their health and safety knowledge, with two of them already aiming for Level 3 NVQs in the specialisms they have identified - as an electrician and as maintenance operatives.

The six winning technicians are Richard Hodson, Shane Hexley, Anthony Parry, James Jones, Rhys Elias and Andrew Roberts.

Two other employees at the Bethesda-based company have also received their certificates for Foundation Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance from Bangor University Chancellor Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM.

Jamie Williams and Stephen Taylor were taken on as apprentices under the Welsh Assembly's Groundwork scheme but are now permanent members of staff.
